DESCRIPTION

Under the general direction of the principal investigator(s), in collaboration with the senior research manager and senior investigators, provides scientific guidance and assistance with implementation, design and monitoring of research projects in the public health and social science disciplines. The incumbent is responsible for the coordination and management of research data for global health behavioral science research in the areas of gender equity, reproductive health, maternal and child health and gender based violence, in the US and in international settings.

Responsibilities include survey development and programming, field team monitoring, project management and quality assurance functions to ensure the timely progression and analysis of research protocols. Experienced professional who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field; independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; possesses broad job knowledge; analyzes problems /issues of diverse scope and determines solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Tracks multiple study deadlines, monitoring grant commitments and deliverables. Liaises between UCSD lab and domestic and international collaborators. Prepares/monitors project timelines and guides implementation of research-related webinars, meetings and events, and subsequent deliverables, in collaboration with study staff. Assists with assessing and monitoring policies and procedures for remote field sites and or research studies. Evaluates and investigates opportunities for improvement. Ensures instrumentation, infrastructure and required field research commodities and other materials support research goals.

Analyzes data and provides input to reports and/or plans to meet regulatory requirements consistent with research protocols and objectives. Documents activities and follows up in accordance with relevant policies and regulations. Conducts background research for briefs and presentations. Provides research and writing support to grant proposals, meeting summaries and reports. Contacts agencies and research partners as needed to coordinate planning. Participates in training activities on research methods and measurement to research partners. Prepares final reports for projects. Takes initiative for developing new methods of data collection activities.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Thorough knowledge of safety, legal, cultural and regulatory requirements relative to field research responsibility. Previous experience with NIH funded research, as well as private foundation funded studies, preferred.

  • Thorough knowledge of research discipline, principles, concepts, analysis and/or operations being conducted at field/remote sites. Knowledge associated with monitoring staffing levels, recruitment and training procedures.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of local customs and operations at field/remote sites.

  • Demonstrated prior grant/proposal and report writing experience.

  • Strong research and analytical skills. Attention to detail

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strategic relationships and partnerships with remote research partners

  • Excellent communication skills with research partners and project team members.

  • Proven interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to interact with variety of personalities, as well as foreign collaborators. Ability to convey information clearly and concisely.

  • Thorough knowledge of fields of research related to gender equity, reproductive, maternal and child health, gender-based violence, and health disparities.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills (preferably in an academic setting). Ability to work independently, determine priorities, complete multiple projects accurately, efficiently, and with a high level of attention to detail while working with conflicting deadlines.

  • Proven ability to work independently and with a team, and to track and meet deadlines with minimal supervision. Ability to work in ambiguous conditions and take relevant responsible action as required.
