Beloit College seeks a Curator of the Logan Museum of Anthropology to begin June 2020. The Curator is responsible for overall management and preservation of the Logan Museum of Anthropology’s collections and coordinates the museum’s long-term exhibit schedule and outreach programs. The Curator works closely with the Director, faculty, and students to develop and maintain the museum as an excellent teaching and learning resource for the College and community. The Curator teaches in Museum Studies and supervises student work and research in the museum. The Curator reports to the Director. This is a twelve month, full-time, administrative, and exempt position.

The Curator manages and preserves the museum’s collections, including proper storage and inventory, registration and cataloging of new acquisitions, maintenance and data entry in the collections management software system, filing, loans, and rights and reproduction. In addition, the Curator coordinates long-term planning and installation of exhibits, maximizing collaboration with students and faculty. The Curator develops programs that make use of the collections as curricular resources and provides tours and guest lectures for the College and community. The Curator teaches one course per year in Museum Studies and trains and supervises students working in the museum. The Curator assists the Director implementing legal and ethical requirements pertaining to collections and exhibits, including NAGPRA compliance efforts.

The successful candidate will have a M.A. or M.S. in Anthropology, Museum Studies, or a related field, three years of prior museum experience, preferably in academic museums, and teaching experience, broadly defined. The Curator must have a working knowledge of best practice in collections management and exhibit development and have experience using collections management software programs and digital applications, including Adobe Creative Cloud. The Curator should have mechanical abilities in exhibit and storage mount construction and should be comfortable working with power tools and equipment. Because the Curator will work closely with faculty and students, they should have excellent supervisory, organizational, and communicational skills. The Curator will promote the museum as a valuable teaching resource, balancing preservation and access requirements.
