ECU Physicians Administration supports ECU Physicians offering a wide variety of services and options for the care of patients throughout eastern North Carolina.

ECU Physicians Administration is comprised of departments to support the clinical operations and departments.

ECU Physicians Clinical Informatics develops all clinical informatics protocols and policies to ensure compliance to all developed quality metrics; monitors all clinical workflow processes; and analyzes all clinical informatics processes to ensure optimal patient care.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Job Duties

This is a clinical faculty position with administrative duties as the Chief Medical Informatics Officer for the Brody School of Medicine.

For this full-time (1.0 FTE) position, 50% of the effort will be dedicated to the administrative role as Chief Medical Informatics Officer. The remaining 50% of this full-time position will be allocated to the candidate’s medical specialty and the duties will be assigned by that department chair.

For the administrative role as Chief Medical Informatics Officer duties will include, but may not be limited to, the following:

Responsibility for supporting the development, adoption, and use of clinical information systems that assist clinicians in the delivery of patient care.

Representing the provider community and serving as an advocate in promoting the use of information technology in the clinical setting, working with information technology professionals to translate clinical requirements into specifications for new systems to support the clinical enterprise and its interface with education and research.

Using knowledge of patient care combined with understanding of informatics concepts, methods, and tools to: (1) assessing information and acknowledge needs of health care professionals and patients; (2) characterizing, evaluating, and refining clinical processes; (3) assisting in training end users individually or in groups; (4) developing, implementing, and refining clinical decision support systems; (5) assisting in leading the procurement, customization, development, implementation, management, evaluation, and continuous improvement of clinical information systems; and (6) assuring compliance with regulatory policies related to necessary documentation for billing and other tasks, and

Any additional duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer.

The duties assigned by the clinical department may include direct patient care in the outpatient and inpatient settings; teaching medical students, medical residents, and clinical fellows; serving on department, school, and university committees; research and publication; and any additional duties as assigned by the Department Chair.

Minimum Education/Experience

MD or DO degree from an appropriately accredited institution.

Completion of medical residency program.

Three years experience working with clinical informatics and electronic health records.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

NC Medical License or eligibility for a NC Medical License
