The Department of Statistical Sciences in the Faculty of Arts andScience at the University of Toronto (UofT) invites applications for afull-time tenure stream position in Statistics. Theappointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor and willcommence on July 1, 2020 orshortly thereafter.

 We are interested in candidates thatdemonstrate an exceptional record of excellence in teaching and research whose research and teaching interestscomplement and strengthen our existing departmental strengths https://www.statistics.utoronto.ca/research. Candidates will have an establishedinternational reputation and will be expected to sustain and lead innovativeand independent research at the highest international; level and to maintain anoutstanding, competitive and externally funded research program.

 The successful candidate is expected to lead the Canadian StatisticalSciences Institute of Ontario (CANSSI-Ontario) at UofT, an extra-departmentalunit in the Faculty of Arts and Science, administered by the Department ofStatistical Sciences, and to serve as the Regional Director of CANSSI Ontario,a regional node of the Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute for an initialterm of five years. CANSSIOntario has been established to provide province-wide leadership in developingscientific collaborations and training programs, and to strengthen the networkof statistical scientists across Canada that forms CANSSI.  Applicantsmust have a PhD degree in Statistics, Biostatistics or a related field and a demonstratedoutstanding record in research and teaching. Excellence in researchis evidenced primarily by a mature research program with a sustained record ofresearch contributions at the highest international levels expected of aleading researcher, as judged by sustained high impact publications in topranked and field-relevant academic journals, the submitted research statement,invited presentations at top international conferences, distinguished researchawards and accolades, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to thevisibility and prominence of the discipline as well as exceptional endorsementsby referees of the highest international stature. Evidence for excellence inteaching is based on strong letters of reference, and a teaching dossiercontaining a strong statement of teaching philosophy, sample syllabi and coursematerials, teaching accomplishments and accolades and teaching evaluations.

 In addition to arecord of research and teaching excellence, the successful candidate willpossess and demonstrate outstanding leadership, administrative management,communication, and relationship-building skills clearly demonstrated throughthe application materials. As CANSSI-Ontario Director, the successful applicantis expected to foster provincial, national and international collaborations andpartnerships, secure external funding, and build a network of collaborativeprojects with cognate departments with the ultimate goal of strengtheningresearch and education in statistical science in Ontario.
