Basic Function

The Library Assistant provides circulation services at a community college library on a flexible schedule approximately 4 days a week.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Library Assistant the incumbent

•Provides circulation services to students, faculty, staff and community patrons.
•Checks library materials in and out of integrated library system.
•Collects fines and fees for library materials.
•Creates community patron accounts in integrated library system and issues community patron library cards to new community patrons.
•Assists patrons with printing, copying, scanning, emailing, and basic computer use.
•Performs opening and closing procedures.
•Reshelf books.

Minimum Qualifications

•High school diploma/GED or the equivalent combination of experience and/or training.
•Prior customer service experience.
•Basic computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

•Completion of college coursework.
•Experience providing circulation services in a library setting including some knowledge of integrated library systems.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

•Knowledge of Library of Congress Classification System.
•Strong customer service skills.
•Strong written and oral communication skills.
•Strong attention to detail.
•Ability to interact effectively with diverse students, faculty, staff and community patrons.
•Ability to work as part of a team.
•Available to work a flexible schedule that may include mornings, evenings and occasional Saturdays.
