Requirements

The Director of Athletics Engagement supports the Athletics Department's priorities and sport specific campaigns through volunteer management and engagement activities, and soliciting and stewarding contributions. Primary responsibilities of the Director include managing, partnering and working with athletic volunteers, fans and friends to build an active and educated alumni, parent and volunteer base to support the 750 student athletes and the Georgetown University Athletics Department. Specific aspects of the position involve:
  • Managing a portfolio of 50-75+ volunteers for Athletics.
  • Planning and implementation of new strategies to engage alumni, parents and activate the Athletics Department's 19 volunteer boards.
  • Partnering with the Athletics Annual Giving team to grow the base of support from alumni-student athletes, alumni, parents, former parents and friends by leveraging strategic events, targeted communications, and one-on-one gift solicitations.
  • Managing Letterwinners Society membership activities, soliciting and stewarding contributions in collaboration with the athletics annual giving team.
  • Strategic event planning and execution for all of Georgetown Athletics signature events and engagement opportunities for the sports.
  • Managing a team that includes volunteer engagement positions.
  • Collaborating with athletic department staff, senior staff and major gift team members to develop strategies for supporting department priorities through events, sport specific social channels and communications that support engagement related activities and opportunities. student workers, acts as a backup to colleagues, and assists with answering department phone lines as needed.

The position interacts with various members of the Office of Advancement staff including the Director of Athletics Annual Giving. Finally, the position interacts with the Office of the President to coordinate Presidential attendance at events and to construct briefings. The Director reports to the Senior Director of Athletics and manages the Associate Director of Athletics Engagement and the Associate Director of Athletics Communications

The Director of Athletics Engagement will have duties that include, but are not limited to the following:

Fundraising
  • Handles the overall engagement efforts for Georgetown Athletics, including but not limited to strategizing, planning and implementing mass communication for engagement, stewardship activities; produce best-in-class work as it relates to the execution of key signature events for Georgetown University and the Athletics Department.
  • Oversees key partnerships with both the Development team and Donor Relations to create a high level of engagement for targeted alumni, parents and friends of Georgetown University and Georgetown Athletics in an effort to grow the support of our 29 sports.
  • Identifies opportunities to bring in revenue from events for the Department of Athletics.

Resource Management
  • Manages the time and the priorities of two or more full-time staff; their responsibilities include but are not limited to: 1) alumni engagement through volunteer management; 2) strategic digital and print communication for engagement opportunities, communication from coaches; and 3) signature/fundraising event planning and execution.

Communications
  • Maintains regular contact with coaches, club presidents, lead volunteers and athletic administrators in addition to athletics development and athletics annual giving staff to coordinate a unified and agreed to approach for raising funds for Athletics.
  • Attends Athletics, University and Advancement events as necessary.

Liaison to the Gift Management Team
  • Builds relationships with colleagues and management in Gift Administration area to better understand their work as it impacts system-wide data integrity.
  • Researches and identifies opportunities to increase the efficiency of current technology and platforms.
  • Researches and familiarizes oneself with Gift Administration processes.
  • Partners with Gift Administration to improve data integrity for new account creation.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree, Masters preferred
  • 5+ years experience in athletics fundraising or alumni related engagement preferred
  • This position has frequent weekend and evening events they are required to be working or in attendance
  • There is additional travel 4-5 times a year on a pre-set schedule
