The Spadoni College of Education at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for the full-time tenure-track position in Higher Education Administration, beginning August 2020. This position is a nine month appointment, with the possibility of summer teaching.

The Spadoni College of Education is an NCATE accredited institution. More than 1,200 undergraduate and graduate students are currently majoring in education programs at Coastal Carolina University. The Spadoni College of Education offers undergraduate programs in early childhood education, elementary education, middle level education, physical education, and special education. Graduate programs include the Master of Arts in Teaching – Secondary Education degree with concentrations in English, social studies, mathematics, and science; Master of Education and Educational Specialists degrees in Educational Leadership; Master of Education and Educational Specialists degrees in Instructional Technology, Master of Education in Special Education, Master of Education in Language, Literacy, and Culture, and an Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Education.

The Ph.D. in Education degree offers specialization areas in Educational Leadership, Higher Education Administration, and Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. The Higher Education Administration program is designed to provide advanced professional studies and graduate-level coursework for candidates who are interested becoming leaders within varied administrative departments in an institution of higher education. Graduates will become well-qualified professionals as they further their knowledge of the functions and effectiveness of institutions of higher education in areas such as: admissions, student support/services, housing and residence life, finance, academic services, student activities, experiential learning, graduate studies, technology, and the many facets of student achievement. Candidates have opportunities to work with experienced leaders within higher education, both inside the classroom and through related experiences. The specialization area will prepare these leaders to be committed to continuous growth because they will understand that the body of knowledge needed to lead colleges and universities is growing and ever-changing. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with the program coordinator and other program faculty to: actively participate in established and new program curriculum and assessments development, implementation, and analysis; provide advisement and mentorship to students; participate in program, departmental, college, and university governance; represent the program with external constituencies; provide assistance with the recruitment and retention of students; and engage in relevant professional activities and scholarship.

Required Qualifications:
• Earned Ph.D./Ed.D. degree in Higher Education Administration, or a closely related discipline with a strong content background in higher education;
• A minimum of three years of successful experience working at the administrative level at a higher education institution;
• Demonstrates the potential for excellence in teaching at the university level, specifically graduate level;
• Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Demonstrates potential to collaboratively work with multiple stakeholders and build meaningful partnerships;
• Knowledge of and ability to integrate effective technology into teaching and learning; and
• Evidence of scholarly productivity.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience teaching courses in Higher Education at the doctoral level (including hybrid and online courses);
• Experience with online instruction (synchronous and asynchronous methodologies);
• Experience with program evaluation;
• Experience in advising graduate level students;
• Experience with coordinating programs and/or organizational leadership;
• Experience with supporting candidates through the Dissertation process;
• Experience with higher education professional organizations;
• Experience teaching adult learners; and/or
• Successful experience as an administrator at a higher education institution.

Must hold the appropriate terminal degree or meet the established alternative qualifications, and exhibit strong potential for excellence in teaching. Earned Ph.D./Ed.D. degree in Higher Education Administration, Higher Education Leadership, or a closely related discipline with a strong content background in higher education. A minimum of three years of successful experience in higher education. The potential for excellence in teaching at the university level, specifically graduate level.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching courses in Higher Education at the Masters, Educational Specialist, and/or Doctoral level (including hybrid and online courses). Experience with program assessment and accreditation. Experience with coordinating programs and/or organizational leadership. Experience teaching adult learners. Successful experience as a higher education administrator.

Licensure and/or CertificationKnowledge, Skills & Abilities

Excellent oral and written communication skills. The potential to collaboratively work with multiple stakeholders and build meaningful partnerships. Knowledge of and ability to integrate effective technology into teaching and learning.
