Oglethorpe University welcomes applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professorship in Biology, starting Fall 2020. The teaching load is two courses with labs per semester, fall and spring.

The successful candidate’s teaching load will include lab/field-based courses that will use quantitative methods to help our students understand plant biology and the roles that plants play in biotic communities and ecosystems. Teaching load will include courses spanning our Biology curriculum, including introductory-level courses, upper-level electives and a senior seminar, as well as a science course in our general-education Core curriculum.

Qualifications

The minimum qualification is a Ph.D. in Biology, or a related discipline, earned by August 2021. The most desirable candidates are those who have trained in the use of plant models to understand important ecological processes or applications (e.g., primary productivity or ecological restoration) and/or industrial applications (e.g., biotechnology, genetic engineering or pharmacology). Candidates should also demonstrate familiarity with innovative teaching methods (e.g., active learning and service learning) and should have an interest in team-based and multidisciplinary teaching approaches. Finally, candidates should be prepared to conduct student-focused research. Candidates are encouraged to provide examples in their application materials of how their interests and training could potentially synergize with our programs in Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Studies and/or Public Health.
