Assistant Professor, Classical Arabic Islamic Thought - Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies

Requirements

The Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in the field of Classical Arabic Islamic Thought, starting in August 2020. We are considering a broad range of humanistic disciplines, including intellectual and cultural history, adab, language and rhetoric, religious studies, philosophy, etc.

Applicants should have a completed Ph.D. with a clearly demonstrated specialty in the Classical Arabic Islamic Humanities. Candidates must show strong promise of excellence in research as well as teaching; a near-native fluency in Modern Standard Arabic and a mastery of Classical Arabic texts is assumed.

The teaching load is two courses per semester, with teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will be expected to advise Arabic majors, supervise doctoral research in relevant fields, pursue an active research agenda, and play a leading role in consolidating and expanding our Arabic and Islamic Studies humanities curriculum.
