The Department of Physical Sciences at Concord University is accepting applications for two open positions as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry, and one non-tenure-track position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor.

For the tenure-track positions (Ph. D. required), the successful candidate will teach introductory and upper-level courses in any field of chemistry or biochemistry that complements existing strengths in organic chemistry. Applicants with ability to teach in two or more of the following areas are preferred: Analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, biochemistry, general chemistry, environmental chemistry, geochemistry. For the non-tenure-track position (M.S. or Ph. D. required), the successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and coordinating general chemistry laboratory experiences and other courses as needed. The position is open to candidates with expertise in any area of chemistry or biochemistry.

The Department values and supports innovative teaching and participation in undergraduate research and seeks candidates with similar ideals. The chemistry program supports majors in chemistry (including a biochemistry option and a geochemistry option), biology, health sciences, science education, and environmental geosciences.

Candidates for all three positions will teach a 12 contact-hour load/semester. Tenure-track faculty are expected to engage in scholarship that enhances their teaching and to develop a modest undergraduate research program; all faculty assume an active role in formal and informal student advising and participate in departmental activities and University governance including programmatic assessment efforts. Candidates will participate in routine upkeep and maintenance of laboratory facilities and engage in safe and ethical laboratory practices as a role model to students.

The department operates and maintains a wide range of analytical instrumentation and related facilities including an electron microprobe (EPMA), micro-XRF, HPLC, SCF extractor, microplate reader, GC, GC-MS, fluorimeter, ICP-ES, Raman, IR, UV-Vis, FT-IR, potentiostat/galvanostat, AFM, polarizing microscopes, thin section/materials prep laboratory, plasma sputter and vacuum carbon coaters, vacuum spin coater, and a proposed bench top NMR.

Concord University is a liberal arts institution located in a scenic area of the southern West Virginia Appalachians with access to year-round outdoor recreational activities. Interested applicants should apply at https://jobs.concord.edu.

Positions require a Ph. D. for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, or an M.S. for Instructor. Candidates may separately apply for both the tenure-track and non-tenure-track positions.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Concord is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Women, minorities, and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Review of applications begins immediately and will continue until the positions are filled.
