The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center (formerly Pitt County Memorial Hospital). Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. There is a 52-bed inpatient service that houses acute beds, combined MI-ID beds, and combined Med-Psych beds in this 900+ bed tertiary care academic medical center serving Eastern and coastal North Carolina providing acute, intermediate, rehabilitation, and out-patient health services to more than 1.4 million people in 29 counties. The plans for a 10-bed child and adolescent unit are currently underway.Job Duties
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is seeking a Board-Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to fill a full-time faculty position with a 0.5 FTE Residency Program Director and 0.5 FTE Clinical responsibilities.
The ECU/Vidant Medical Center and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Program is ACGME-approved for 4 child and adolescent psychiatry residents, with two rotating off each year. The program is based in rural psychiatry tenets and residents train in a variety of training sites throughout eastern North Carolina. The patient population is socially, economically and racially diverse and is drawn from Pitt County and the surrounding 33 counties.
Residency Program Director responsibilities will include residency program development and evaluation, resident recruitment and selection; resident evaluation and supervision; course/rotation monitoring and evaluation; coordination of all course and rotation scheduling; serving as the chairperson of the residency training committee; and community engagement with physicians, hospitals administrators and community site coordinators.
There are clinical opportunities in outpatient child psychiatry in community health centers, consultation with pediatric practices, juvenile justice, telemedicine or in resident clinic supervision.
Fixed Term or Tenure Track position available.Minimum Education/Experience
1. Graduate of a medical school approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education of the AAMC and the Council of Medical Education on the AMA.
2. Graduate of an ACGME-accredited psychiatry residency training program.
3. Graduate of an ACGME-accredited child and adolescent psychiatry training program
4. Board Certified by ABPN in general psychiatry and adolescent psychiatry.
5. Eligible for license in the state of North Carolina.License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
N/APreferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
1. At least three years post residency clinical and administrative experience.
2. Administrative experience running a residency training program.
3. Experience in medical education.
