Position Qualifications - Responsibilities:

The Department of Physics in the College of Science and Mathematics at Kennesaw State University invites applications for a non-tenure track Lecturer or Senior Lecturer position to begin August 2020. Primary responsibilities include teaching the non-calculus and calculus-based introductory physics sequence and laboratories. The College of Science and Mathematics’ Student Success Initiative has an imperative for including and fostering success for students from a diversity of backgrounds in STEM degree programs. Successful applicants will be strongly committed to inclusive teaching practices and be ready to invest deeply in KSU students. Additionally, the successful applicant will serve as a departmental coordinator for our calculus-based physics sequence. Coordinator responsibilities include taking a leadership role in curricular, instructional, and assessment decisions related to the course and serving as a support to both full-time and part-time faculty members. The ideal candidate will have experience with, or demonstrate a strong potential for, working collaboratively with teaching faculty in service to a diverse student body.

Required Education - Experience - Skills (Minimum Qualifications):

Applicants must have a minimum of a M.S. degree in Physics or closely-related field, or the foreign equivalent. The ideal candidate will have at least five years experience teaching undergraduate Physics courses.

As part of the interview process, the search committee will ask the candidate to present a lecture that would be taught to students in an introductory physics course. The screening committee will consider feedback from both students and faculty.

The Department of Physics supports a robust undergraduate degree program in physics with concentrations in general physics, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. With 23 full-time faculty members, the department serves over 90 undergraduate physics majors and has a history of student engagement including vibrant student organizations and undergraduate research. Research in the department focuses on theoretical and experimental particle physics, materials physics, astrophysics, and optics. The Department is in the College of Science and Mathematics, which also houses the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry; Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology; Department of Mathematics; Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology; and Department of Statistics and Analytical Sciences.

The university has committed itself to expanding the global experience of students, faculty and staff through its Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), known as the "Global Learning for Engaged Citizenship" initiative, which began in 2007. In 2009, the Kennesaw State Owls completed a reclassification from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I, competing in the Atlantic Sun Conference. During the transition from 2005-2009, KSU teams have won six Atlantic Sun Conference tournaments in five sports, including men’s indoor and outdoor track, women’s soccer, softball and cross-country.

Kennesaw State was originally established by the University System of Georgia as Kennesaw Junior College serving 1,000 students. The college became a four-year institution in 1976 and was named Kennesaw College in 1977.
