Position Summary:

This person would be an integral member of a research team, and a larger team of collaborators at other universities, who investigate relationships of nutritional biomarkers, diet, lifestyles and health to risk for common age-related eye diseases and optimal vision function. The person in this position works with a variety of team members, and closely with the principal investigator, to assist the ophthalmic statistician in the development and documentation of analysis databases. This person will also independently analyze statistical data, solve analytic problems, summarize data, and describe results in research reports, publications, posters and presentations. This person will coordinate efforts to collect biological specimens, and have them sent to outside institutions for analysis. Thus, strong skills in data collection, organization, and analysis using SAS are required. Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills, and ability to function collaboratively, as a team, are essential.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Master of Science (or Doctorate) in Epidemiology or related area with experience in using epidemiological methods is required.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

One year of work experience is required in collecting, managing, analyzing, and documenting data for epidemiological/clinical studies as part of a larger team. This would include preparation of tables and figures in research publications, and for talks or posters for presentation at scientific meetings. This experience could be in graduate training, or post degree employment. Competence in the use of Statistical Analysis Software (SAS), Excel and Microsoft suite is required.

Preferred experience includes using REDCap software and prior knowledge of nutritional data (foods, supplements and blood nutrient estimates). Broad knowledge of health and disease medical terms and risk factors.

-Experience utilizing SAS to analyze relationships of nutrition, health and/ or environmental exposures to chronic disease outcomes.

Knowledge/Skills Preferred:
-Experience in analyzing nutritional data.
-Curiosity and enthusiasm in contributing to and advancing knowledge to further understand the biological basis for ocular health and steps that can be taken to promote optimal eye health.
