The Office of Advancement supports the mission of Georgetown University, its faculty, and students by developing relationships with key constituencies, connecting with alumni, and working with donors to help them know and understand opportunities for partnership with the university.

The Associate Director of Development (ADoD), Northeast will be an integral member of the regional Development team who will research, identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors in one of the University's highest performing fundraising markets. This role will be based in our New York City office. This individual will build a portfolio of current and prospective donors with a focus in the NYC metro market (NY, NJ, CT), but will also travel to and develop a pipeline in select parts of New England. The ADoD Northeast will be responsible for all aspects of pipeline development within their portfolio, including prospective donor identification in their markets and engagement strategies. This individual will be responsible for soliciting and closing gifts in the $25,000 to $100,000 range for the University.

The Associate Director of Development will report to the Director of Development, Northeast and be a part of a vibrant team based out of Georgetown's small NYC office. The ADoD will join Development colleagues in the NE, DC, and throughout the world to execute an ambitious and focused fundraising strategy to support the University at a pivotal moment in its growth. The incumbent will work collaboratively with other members of the Advancement team (including other Development Officers and members of the Alumni Relations, Donor Relations, Reunions, and Campaign Management teams, among others) and academic University partners on fundraising priorities and donor strategies, while also retaining autonomy in portfolio development and pipeline management. The ADoD will primarily focus their efforts on University alumni with secondary efforts on other constituencies such as parents of current students and unaffiliated donors. This individual will travel extensively within the NE region to meet with current and prospective donors and travel to Washington, DC approximately 9-10 times per year for internal campus meetings.

The Associate Director of Development, Northeast will have duties that include, but are not limited to the following:
Major Gift Fundraising
  • Conduct 120-150 donor visits per year to build a strong major gift portfolio and promote campaign priorities.
  • Solicit a minimum of 10 gifts of $50,000 or above each year.
  • Secure philanthropic pledges and cash gifts for the University totaling a pre-determined goal which will start at approximately $100,000 to $300,000 and grow commensurate with pipeline development.
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 175-200 major gift donors and prospective donors, with responsibilities for all aspects of their engagement with the University.

Market Strategy and Execution
  • Collaborate with Development Colleagues, Planned Giving, Alumni Relations, Donor Relations, Reunions, and Campaign Management teams to develop engagement strategies for current and prospective donors throughout the region.
  • Manage targeted, development-focused gatherings in the region to bolster strong philanthropic relationships and maximize gift potential.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Ideally 3-5 years of work experience in a development/fundraising non-profit environment (higher-education experience is preferred).
  • This role is based in NYC. All candidates must be willing to work out of our NYC office throughout the week; this will require current residing in the NY metro area and/or being willing to relocate to NYC.
  • Possess a strong sense of customer service.
  • Demonstrates a positive and creative approach to work.
  • Comfort in database management (experience with Salesforce is preferred).
  • Excellent writing, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem solving abilities; the ability to exercise independent judgment and take initiative; and a commitment to confidentiality and ethical information collection.
  • Highly developed, written, organizational, and verbal communications skills with critical attention to detail.
  • Strong collaborative and project management skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Ability to interact effectively in teams and a variety of staff members.
  • Attention to detail is critical.
