Job Title: Health Services Librarian

With More than 5,000 students (including on-ground locations in Chicago, Washington, D.C., XULA, Dallas, and Southern California—as well as online programming) The Chicago School has a long tradition of being an innovator in the field for 40 years –working to push the boundaries and the impact that psychology and the health sciences have on our world.

The Chicago School University Library is accepting applications for a Health Services Librarian. The individual selected for this newly created position will have the opportunity to help develop and define the library’s services for the University’s growing health science programs. Serving as the University Library’s liaison with the Dallas Campus, the Health Services Librarian is responsible for ensuring the day to day operations of the Dallas Campus library. The Health Services Librarian will work closely with the Instruction and User Engagement Librarian to develop information literacy programming that meets the needs of future health service and medical providers.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with the Instruction and Student Engagement Librarian to develop information literacy courses to meet the needs of health sciences and nursing students
  • Provide information literacy instruction, both online and on-ground, for the Dallas and Online Campuses.
  • Assess and provide recommendations for improving the Health Services collection to the University Librarian
  • Participates in the shared responsibility for providing reference services across campuses, via chat and research consultations
  • Manage the daily operations of the Dallas Campus library
  • Supervise the Dallas Library’s Graduate Student Assistants
  • Develop strong partnerships with the faculty and staff to meet the needs of the Dallas Campus Community.
  • Collaborate with University Departments to create events, programs, and workshops, to build and encourage student engagement
  • Serve on University Committees
  • Additional duties as required

Required Qualifications

  • American Library Association (ALA)-accredited Master’s degree (or international equivalent), must have degree by position start date.
  • Bachelor’s degree in the Nursing, Health Sciences, Psychology, or related field
  • Knowledge of current research and information sources in a broad range of Health and social science disciplines
  • Awareness and comfort with technology pertaining to health sciences or social sciences.
  • When required/necessary, work nights and weekends
  • Familiarity with the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education
  • Strong public service orientation and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a rapidly changing environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in the Health Sciences or related field
  • Coursework in Medical/Health Services Librarianship
  • Active in Health Science-related library organizations and focus groups
  • Knowledge of Psychological Assessments and Testing Instruments
  • Experience Copy Cataloging
  • Experience to read and write Spanish
