Position Summary

Big Bend Community College invites applications for a part-time Welding Lab Technician position in the college's Welding Program. This position is responsible to provide support and assistance to students and faculty in the Welding (WLD) program.

BBCC is a small rural community college located in the sunny, central part of Washington State, and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Big Bend Community College serves approximately 4,000 students, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,000, in a 4,600-square-mile service district including 15 communities in Grant and Adams counties and the Odessa School District in Lincoln County with on-site, online instruction, and interactive classrooms.

The work schedule for this position is mid-September to mid-June; average of 16 hours per week. Schedule will be determined according to the needs of the department, may include day or evening hours.

Essential Job Duties

  • Preparation of material and equipment for use in the shop, classroom, or lab.
  • Set up, maintain, and operate equipment in accordance with standardized procedures or instructions from faculty.
  • Assist students in course assignments and projects.
  • Maintain and organize inventories of materials.
  • Maintain quarterly chemical inventory, generate waste and usage lists for the Director of Campus Security & Safety.
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed.
  • Perform routine cleaning, maintenance, and setup of equipment.
  • Resolve equipment problems through troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
  • Standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Minimum & Desirable Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safe work practices.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse academic, age, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current welder certifications.
  • Knowledge of the equipment used in the welding industry.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English proficiency.
