University Assistant/System Administrator

Eastern Connecticut State University, the state’s public liberal arts university serving approximately 5300 students, offers a wide range of undergraduate majors in the arts and sciences and professional studies, as well as selected graduate programs. Located in historic Windham County in the heart of eastern Connecticut, the University is midway between New York City and Boston and only a short drive from Hartford, the state capital.

Position: University Assistant, System Administrator (Part-Time)

Core Duties:

  • Independently manage and prioritize projects and tasks to ensure the smooth running of all aspects of the educator preparation program’s data management system and graduate division’s application system. 
  • Communicate via phone, email, video conference, or direct contact with members of the university and external providers concerning system upgrades, problems, accounts, and implementation issues; this will include talking with applicants, students, and faculty regarding sensitive or FERPA related information. 
  • Develop documentation for and provide technical support for educator preparation program’s data management system and graduate division’s application system; train groups and individuals to use the systems.
  • Manage data related to program accreditation.
  • Assist with development of reports needed to manage educator preparation programs, track graduate applications, and comply with state and federal agencies. Prepare reports as scheduled and on an ad hoc basis; share reports with appropriate parties.
  • Manage Tk20 and Banner integration procedures for clinical placement spreadsheet and graduate application system.
  • Monitor changes and upgrades in the systems, take action to ensure smooth implementation, and notify affected parties in a timely manner.
  • Troubleshoot, resolve, and document issues that develop with the systems.   
  • Develop, document, and maintain a virtual center on the university website for frequently asked questions and solutions concerning problems and operations of the data management system and graduate application system. 
  • Assist faculty and staff with making appropriate links from other parts of the website to Tk20 and application information.
  • Work with the online course evaluation system to ensure timely feedback of results to instructors and other stakeholders. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or related field and three (3) years database/technology experience OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Advanced proficiency in common business applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, email, SharePoint, and web applications.
  • Ability to provide quality and timely technical support to faculty, staff, and students.  
  • Strong technical editing and writing skills to create documentation for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to recognize sensitive information and implement appropriate security measure to protect it.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to those who have worked in a higher education environment.  
  • Experience working with a data management system, course management system, or student information system.  
  • Experience integrating different systems, especially Tk20, Ellucian Banner, Ellucian Recruit, and Blackboard.
  • Experience training large and small groups of users on a new system.  

Schedule: Flexible during standard work week hours, with an average of 15 hours per week over 12 months

Salary: $28/hour
