Overview

The Department of Kinesiology and Health Science at Utah State University (USU) seeks an Assistant Professor in Sports Management at the USU Logan Campus. This is 9-month academic-year, tenure-track, full-time benefited position beginning August 2020. The successful candidate for the position will demonstrate a passion for the field of sports management and a desire to advance it through excellent teaching and the creation of new knowledge through scholarship and research.  The candidate will also demonstrate the ability to work harmoniously with colleagues. This position will primarily support a new master’s degree in Sports Management at USU and may also include teaching at the undergraduate level.  Review of applicants will begin November 25, 2019 and will continue until the position is filled.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate excellence and expertise in teaching a variety of courses in Sports Management.
  • Conduct and publish research in area of expertise.
  • Provide mentorship to students and assist in the coordination of professional experiences for students.
  • Collaborate with community and industry partners that are beneficial to program success.
  • Commit to department, university, and professional service.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in Sports Management or a related field at the time of appointment (August 2020).
  • Evidence of the ability to demonstrate excellence in teaching courses in Sports Management and related disciplines.
  • Evidence of the ability to be an effective student mentor.
  • Evidence of the ability to develop a research program that leads to scholarly output.
  • Ability to contribute to the university and the Sports Management field through academic and public service/engagement.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to collaboration and collegiality among peers and constituents.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous university experience with positive teaching evaluations.
  • Experience teaching in the online environment.
  • A consistent publication record.
  • Industry related experience in sports management or a related field.
  • Ability to work with partners to create innovative co-curricular learning experiences for students.
