Description:

The University of Florida, Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics in the College of Medicine, in collaboration with the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, is recruiting tenure track biomedical informatics faculty. The current faculty position is open rank but individuals at the level of Associate Professor are preferred. Areas of interest include a research emphasis in clinical and translational research informatics, learning health system, ontology, clinical informatics, pharmacogenomics, personalized health, human-computer interaction, or data visualization. In addition, individuals who are interested in focusing on team science and education in informatics are encouraged to apply. Individuals interested in leading their own scientific programs in addition to education are also welcomed.

Biomedical informatics is a strategic area of growth for the University and for the UF Health System. Within the Department of Health Outcomes and Informatics, we have grown to five faculty and established certificate, Masters, and PhD programs in 4 years. In addition, we collaborate closely with the UF Informatics Institute and through the Clinical and Translational Science Institute provide leadership for Biomedical Informatics throughout the Health Science Center, the Health System and University. The Division of Biomedical Informatics in the Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics has established a project management office and a team of software engineers and analysts, both of which serve as faculty resources for numerous biomedical informatics, departmental, and university-wide initiatives.

The Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics fosters collaborative relationships with investigators across diverse disciplines, including pediatrics, medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, molecular biology, epidemiology, genetics, behavioral medicine, policy evaluation, and health outcomes research. The Department works closely with the Institute for Child Health Policy, Clinical and Translational Science Institute, Diabetes Institute, Department of Pediatrics, Department of Medicine, UF Health Cancer Center, the Institute for Aging and the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. The Department, with 22 full‐time faculty members and over 100 professional and support staff, provides an exceptional research environment with over $23M annually in extramural funding.


Qualifications:

Minimum requirements are:

  1. MD with a masters degree in biomedical or related field and/or a PhD in biomedical informatics or a related field, including but not limited to computer science, information science, engineering;
  2. Track record of investigation in biomedical informatics;
  3. Commitment to pursue an academic biomedical informatics career.

For advanced rank at Associate Professor or Professor, the candidate must also have:

  1. Significant record of support on external funding;
  2. Recognized record of collaborative research, scholarship, and teaching in biomedical informatics;
  3. Established track record as an essential collaborator or core director of NIH or other competitive funded research projects. A strong record of leadership in informatics education is highly desired.
