Description:

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Florida is seeking a board certified/eligible physician-scientist or basic scientist at the Assistant/Associate/Professor level to pursue a tenure-track career in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

We are seeking a research-oriented clinician or Ph.D whose interests complement and/or synergize with our existing world-class research programs such as our gene-therapy and cancer immunotherapy programs. Ideal candidates would have independent research programs or a clear path to becoming independent researchers. Candidates will have the opportunity to receive secondary appointments in basic science departments which would give them access to graduate student trainees. Resources will be available to support the research program from the UF Cancer Center as well as the Department of Pediatrics, dependent on the focus, background, needs and vision of the applicant. Candidates will have the opportunity to be a part of The University of Florida Health Cancer Center (UFHCC) (cancer.ufl.edu). Our Cancer Center consists of more than 200 basic, translational and population based scientists and clinicians at the University of Florida who conduct research for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The center’s collaborative research model encourages the translation of basic laboratory findings to novel therapies.

The multidisciplinary membership of the Cancer Center is its strength. Researchers are drawn from throughout UF, including six colleges within the Health Science Center – Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Public Health and Health Professions, and Veterinary Medicine as well as the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Health and Human Performance, Journalism and Communications, and Agricultural and Life Sciences.

Research at UFHCC is focused around three programs:

• Mechanism of Oncogenesis

• Cancer Therapeutics and Host Response

• Cancer Population Sciences

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or other equivalent. Candidates with clinical interest must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Florida in Pediatrics and be Board certified /eligible in General Pediatrics or the appropriate subspecialty.
