The employee will assist the Head Athletic Trainer in providing the highest level of care possible to the student-athletes at the College of Coastal Georgia.

This is part-time student position reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer. The weekly schedule will be assigned by the supervisor in conjunction with the student’s class schedule. The work schedule is subject to change depending on the athletic activity, e.g., practices, rehab times, etc. Student may not work during scheduled class time, even if class is cancelled or dismissed early.

Essential Duties
  • Practice and Event Set-Up
    • At least one hour prior to practice, deliver water and emergency supplies to proper locations
    • Provide assistance to Head Athletic Trainer before, during, and after practice or event. Assistance can range from minor first aid to medical emergency and student-athlete preparation.
  • Assist Head Athletic Trainer with student-athlete rehabilitation
  • Athletic Training Room maintenance – includes, but is not limited to:
    • Transport laundry to and from the equipment room
    • Fold towels – roll up ace wraps – neoprene
    • Stock cabinets with necessary taping supplies
    • Stock freezers – ice cups
    • Clean all taping tables, treatment tables, pillows, exercise equipment, ice buckets, coolers and whirlpool
    • Monitor hydroculator water level – fill, if necessary
  • Clerical Duties – includes, but is not limited to:
    • Data inputting
    • Paper filing
  • Other job-related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications and Training
  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
  • Must possess an understanding of and respect for the confidential nature of the information handled in the athletic training room and of HIPPA laws
  • Dependability and punctuality
Preferred Qualifications and Training
  • CPR/AED Certified
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – student will work with a diverse population, including administrators, coaches, facilities personnel and student-athletes
  • Background in athletics, sports medicine, and/or a healthcare field
  • Willingness to work in a variety of environments, e.g., indoors, outdoors, rain, snow, heat, etc.

GUIDELINES FOR ALL STUDENT ASSISTANTS

  1. Students must be completing a work assignment during the hours for which he or she is paid. If the supervisor does not have a work assignment prepared, the student should be excused and the hours rescheduled when his or her assistance is required.
  2. IN/OUT time records must be recorded daily at OneUSG. Time records must be approved and submitted at the end of each pay period.
  3. Students are expected to follow a pre-determined work schedule acceptable to both student and supervisor, and report to work when scheduled. Students are not to work during scheduled class time, even if class is cancelled or dismissed early. Student Assistants who participate in intercollegiate athletic events may not be scheduled to work at times conflicting with the event. This includes time on travel status and day of the event.
  4. Upon the last day of employment, the supervisor must notify HR and, if a College Work Study employee, complete the Financial Aid Office’s termination form.
