Nursing Simulation Coordinator

This is a full-time, 10-month position. Available immediately.

The Nursing Simulation Coordinator is responsible for supervising and managing daily simulation lab operations; coordinating simulation education; collaborating to develop pre-simulation activities; collaborating with faculty with conducting simulation and post simulation activities; simulation debriefing sessions; ensuring sustainability and growth of simulation activities; and maintaining professional development in simulation. The Nursing Simulation Coordinator also performs duties essential to the achievement of the departmental goals as well as participates in selected other phases of Nursing Department accreditation activities.

1. Qualifications:

A. Educational Background: R.N., Master's degree in Nursing required or must obtain Master’s Degree within five years of employment at FLCC. New York State Registered Nursing license required.

B. Experience: Minimum of 3 years medical-surgical hospital experience required. Simulated hospital laboratory experience preferred. Familiarity with budgeting and data collection, multi-media equipment, and operation of computers (MS Word) required.

2. Essential Functions:

  1. Creates realistic Nursing Laboratory patient unit environment for simulation sessions.
  2. Leads the planning and utilization of the nursing simulation lab in the Nursing program.
  3. Collaborates with faculty and staff to design, prepare and implement clinical simulations and instructional programs. Serves as the expert in operation of the patient simulation system to support faculty in delivery of content.
  4. Operates the patient simulator during simulation sessions.
  5. Solicits instructor and student feedback following simulation experiences.
  6. Sets-up and tears-down simulation labs for groups between daily simulation sessions.
  7. Conducts debriefing sessions following each simulation session.
  8. Maintains adequate supplies and equipment as needed for simulation sessions.
  9. Provide proper storage of and collaborate in maintenance and repair of simulation equipment.
  10. Maintains confidentiality of data, e.g. student simulation performance, student profiles, grades, clinical information, and budget salary information.
  11. Assists with ordering lab supplies, Simulation equipment, media programs, and equipment while maintaining inventory. This includes contact with outside simulation equipment vendors.
  12. Prepares computer medication carts for faculty and student use during practice, simulation sessions, and competency testing.
  13. Provides simulation and skill instruction, practice supervision (1:1 and small group), and testing of nursing skills.
  14. Collaborates with faculty with simulation related development activities.
  15. Attends and participates in level team and department meetings for continuity of the program.
  16. Participates in departmental committee and accreditation committee work.
  17. Attends level team meetings when appropriate for continuity of the program.
  18. Maintains order and proper care and disposal of supplies and equipment at all times. This includes setting up lab prior to each semester and closing lab following each semester which includes moving and lifting heavy items.

Essential Functions – Nursing Laboratory and Media Center:

  1. Provides orientation and instruction to nursing students and nurse faculty of Nursing Lab simulation equipment and monitors use of equipment.
  2. Assists with coordinating multi-media and computer software materials related to simulations for all nursing students and faculty.
  3. Assists Media Production with the filming of simulations.
  4. Assists students, as needed, with minor simulation equipment malfunction, initiates routine simulation equipment maintenance.
  5. Develops and manages Simulation group sign-up sheets.
  6. Develops and coordinates preview of simulation materials for faculty.
  7. Develops and disseminates simulation patient preview materials to students.
  8. Participates in or leads tours of simulation patient units.
  9. Directly supervises Nursing Simulation work study students and student aides.
  10. Collaborates with faculty and Nursing Lab Coordinator to prepare the laboratory to meet faculty equipment and environmental needs for skill demonstrations.

Essential Functions - Departmental Functions:

  1. Assists with annual budgetary and grants input regarding simulation equipment, i.e., maintains catalog of up-to-date simulation resource material and obtains comparative price quotes for simulation equipment.
  2. Enters simulation information in computer data base.
  3. Tabulates evaluations for course, faculty, and program evaluation.
  4. Serves on departmental and college committees.
  5. Provides nursing student advisement as assigned.
  6. Assists with registration of nursing students as assigned.
  7. Assists with recruitment efforts as requested by Chairperson.
  8. Participates in professional and simulation development activities.
  9. Performs appropriate other duties as requested by the Department Chairperson.

The starting salary is $39,637 for this 10-month position and commensurate with experience.

Finger Lakes Community College was established in 1965 and opened for instruction in 1967. Set on a 250-acre, park-like campus, the College is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. It is a public, open access institution dedicated to providing a quality education in a student-centered environment.

Located in the Finger Lakes region near Canandaigua, NY, the College lies in an area known for its beautiful natural surroundings, exquisite fall foliage, Canandaigua Lake, and local wineries. In addition to the main campus, the College provides instruction at its campus centers in Geneva and Newark and at its Muller Conservation Field Station on Honeoye Lake.

Founded: Established in 1965, opened in 1967.

Enrollment: 6,699 full- and part-time students (Fall 2009). The average age of full-time students is approximately 22; part-time, approximately 24. Students from more than 350 different high schools in New York State and across the United States enrolled at FLCC in Fall 2009, along with students from a few other countries.

Graduates: More than fifty-five percent of FLCC students graduate with A.S. or A.A. transfer degrees prepared for further study at four-year institutions. Others graduate with A.A.S. degrees or certificates prepared to obtain employment in their field of study.

Intercollegiate Athletics: Finger Lakes sponsors men's baseball, basketball, cross-country, lacrosse, soccer, and track teams, as well as women's basketball, cross-country, softball, soccer, track and volleyball. Men and women participate in a nationally recognized Woodsmen team.
