The business manager is responsible for all revenue and promotional matters regarding the Spinnaker Media. The business manager tracks advertising, sponsorship, and creative services revenue to ensure all media outlets’ continued financial solvency and stability. Guiding the Spinnaker Media business staff to meet these goals is the main duty of the business manager, including hiring, training, motivating and reviewing the sales and promotions/marketing team members. The position requires an organized, positive, sociable person who deals well with numbers and has a grasp of media business practices.
The business manager is responsible for all matters related to revenue derived from commercials, sponsorships, creative services, and display, classified and online advertisements. The business manager will be familiar with all advertising policies, including ad dimensions, deadlines and discounts, and will train advertising representatives on such policies.

Required Qualifications

Meet desired goals of the Spinnaker publisher, Spinnaker TV station manager, Spinnaker Radio station manager, and the Spinnaker digital editor.
Balance the business office’s budget, including operating expenses and wages.
Generate invoices and log receipts for gifts and purchases made and provide any required copies to necessary parties.
Track the progress and completion of sales from introduction to payment for publication.
Be available in the office during business hours to address clients’ or staffers’ inquiries and concerns.
Reconcile the revenue goals with the other Spinnaker Media student leaders and advisor and office manager at least once a month.
Oversee promotional campaigns with the help of the Promotional Director and News Marketing Director to develop public relations opportunities for Spinnaker Media.
Assist with interviewing and hiring staffers, as well as with training and disciplining (when needed) staffers.
Supervise and spot check staffers’ performance and clients’ satisfaction.
Mail out invoices and appropriate proof of placement.
Track sales force’s zones, annual and monthly progress, and money earned on new sales and up-sells.
Stay aware of new potential clients and trends in the industry.
Attend advisory board meetings in keeping with SM Advisory board bylaws, as well as weekly leader meetings unless excused for absence.
Oversee and enforce department policies and SM bylaws;
Follows and instills the ethics and laws of the bodies (such as SPJ, FCC, the Constitution) that pertain to their department
Communicate with staff and fellow leaders according to department policies
Sales experience is preferred.

*Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
*Pay is a lump sum contingent on meeting the responsibilities and qualifications of the position consistent with a minimum of 20 hours of competent effort each week.
*Be continuously enrolled at UNF for the duration of the position (and available for a minimum of 16 weeks per semester) and not be on academic probation or suspension according to the most recent UNF course catalog as defined by the most-recent University of North Florida course catalog.
