South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of part-time Instruction and Classroom Support Technician 1 (ICST1).
This position will communicate effectively with staff, faculty, and students to assist with the learning of course content and developing effective learning strategies, problem solving skills, and study habits.

What You'll Do

The ICST1 Tutor will:

• Work under the supervision of the Transition Studies Program Coordinator
• Perform instructional support services for the Transition Studies program, working with students who are in ESL, ABE, and High School + (HS+) classes
• Hold weekly small group or 1-on-1 tutoring sessions
• Embed in ESL, ABE, or HS+ classes
• Provide general study skill strategies and tips to assist student academic skill development
• Utilizes or prepares materials to support student learning
• Apply troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for hardware and software used in academic settings
• Maintain regular and effective communication with students and instructors
• Assist the Program Coordinator, Administrative Assistant, or other staff with projects during downtime.
• Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
• Support the college's mission by creating a work environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking.
• Contribute to the appreciation of diversity and foster a climate of multicultural understanding.

Qualifications You Possess

Minimum Qualifications:

• Six months to two years of full-time experience/training in the appropriate discipline OR equivalent education/experience
• Demonstrated experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working/learning environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• AA/AS from accredited college
• Experience working with students with learning disabilities
• Previous experience and training in tutoring best practices and learning theory
• Experience working with community college students
