The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Latin American history or closely related field, as well as the expertise to teach surveys in U.S. history that focus on race and ethnicity. The department is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach four courses per semester. Courses will include broad introductory surveys of Latin America and the United States. The successful candidate may also be expected to teach upper-division courses in their area of expertise, as well as courses that meet the needs of the department. The position also requires a commitment to excellence in teaching a diverse student body; student advising activities; scholarship; and service both within the university and the profession or community.
Required QualificationsPhD in history or closely related field, with an emphasis on Latin America. PhD must be conferred by July of 2020.
Preferred Qualifications•Evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching.
•Demonstrated experience successfully teaching, mentoring, and advising diverse, underserved students, including students of color and non-traditional students.
•The successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the needs of a diverse urban student population including (but not limited to) students of color, LBGTQIA students, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, non-traditional students, student veterans, and English-language learners.
