DescriptionThe Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering(ECE) at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) invitesapplications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of AssistantProfessor. UCCS is one of four campuses in the University of Colorado system and is home to approximately 10,500 undergraduate and 2,000 graduate students.  The College of Engineering and Applied Science has 1700 students, 20 majors in three departments in the broad areas of Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering, and Computer Science.


We seek an early tenure-track career faculty member with specialtyin power systems and sub-specialty in either power electronics or electricdrives, starting fall semester 2020.

 The position will teach graduate and undergraduatecourses in the areas of power systems, power electronics, and electric drives.  Specific courses include ECE3910: PowerSystems I, ECE4910, Power Systems II, and ECE4955/5955: Power Electronics. Theposition will also introduce new courses (e.g., electric machines, power systemprotective relaying, utility scale battery energy storage systems) depending oncurriculum requirements.

 The successful candidate will possess a solid publicationrecord and demonstrate potential for attracting external research funding, aswell as the ability to interface their research with the department’s existingstrengths in microelectronic circuits, VLSI design, computers,communications/signal processing, and controls. The department is interested incandidates with a strong commitment to pursuing externally funded research andteaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels. 

 The 9-month salary range for this position is$86,000-93,000 (USD, firm), depending on qualifications.

 The ECE Department at UCCS is relatively small in size;thus all tenure-track faculty in the department are expected to teachundergraduate and graduate classes while simultaneously developing anindividual program of research. Considerable flexibility exists in the choiceof research focus so long as areas align with Department strengths. The Collegeof Engineering and Applied Science at UCCS offers degrees at the bachelors,masters, and doctoral levels.  TheMicroelectronics Research Laboratory (MRL) of the ECE Department has awell-equipped 4000 sq. ft. class-100 clean room, with device processing andcharacterization facilities.  TheMicrowave Measurements Laboratory is able to test EMI from high-powercircuits.  The High-Capacity BatteryResearch Laboratory has facilities to test and characterize cells, modules, andbattery packs for hybrid and electric vehicles. The undergraduate communications laboratory has recently been upgradedwith new 6.5 GHz FieldFox spectrum/network analyzers and waveform generators toaugment the wideband digital oscilloscopes.

Qualifications

  1. A Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering or a closelyrelated field; conferred by date of appointment, 8/17/2020.
  2. Specific expertise in power systems and either powerelectronics or electric drives. Expertise obtained during graduate studies willalso be considered.
  3. Four months of teaching experience in an academicsetting as a teaching assistant, instructor of record or the equivalent.
