Salary: $58,000.00- $63,238.00 (Commensurate with experience)

The College of Mathematics and Sciences (CMS) is comprised of six departments which all have the goal of engaging students through inquiry, innovation, and technology. Our academic focus is centered around our desire to learn about and improve the human condition and the natural world. Students are prepared for entrance into the workforce or advanced studies due to a strong academic foundation and experiential learning opportunities, such as internships and undergraduate research. CMS includes approximately 65 full-time faculty and 1000 students.

Westfield State University is one of the few universities to have a Department of Environmental Science, currently with 145 students. The University is ideally situated on the edge of the Berkshire Mountains in western Massachusetts. The University owns a beaver pond / wetland complex, property on the Wild and Scenic Westfield River and woodlands which are often utilized for field -based teaching and research. We have a strong working relationship with environmental partners such as The Nature Conservancy, MA Division of Ecological Restoration, Wild and Scenic Advisory Committee, National Park Service, and others.

General Statement of Duties:
The Department of Environmental Science at Westfield State University seeks a full-time environmental science faculty member with a specialty in soil science and environmental chemistry or closely-related field for a tenure-track position beginning Fall 2020.




Requirements:
Required Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have a Ph.D. in an environmental-science discipline.
  • Be a dynamic and engaging teacher.
  • Be able to teach courses in soil science and environmental chemistry/toxicology/pollution.
  • Be able to mentor undergraduate research projects in their area of scientific expertise.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates with experience with wetland science are especially encouraged to apply.

Note: WSU considers teaching and focus on student learning to be the primary duty of faculty, but research is also encouraged, especially projects that involve undergraduates and community partners. The department offers a collegial work environment where classes are relatively small.
