The Research IT unit (https://www.google.com/url?q=https://research-it.berkeley.edu/&source=gmail&ust=1571506200221000&usg=AFQjCNGRwb_iPTX6svaA0Yj4Xw_QrXzSAw" href="https://apptrkr.com/get_redirect.php?id=1678549&targetURL=https://research-it.berkeley.edu/" target="_blank">https://research-it.berkeley.edu/) within the Research, Teaching and Learning Services organization (RTL) provides the following campus-wide services and programs: 1) Berkeley Research Computing - services which include high-performance computing, cloud computing support, and virtual research environments on demand; 2) Research Data Management - which, in conjunction with the library, supports current and emerging data management issues, compliance with policy requirements imposed by funders and by the University, and reduction of risk associated with the challenges of data stewardship; 3) Museum informatics including the development and support for CollectionSpace which catalogs over two million objects and images in the UC Berkeley museums' research collections; and 4) Support for Digital Humanities. These services all offer extensive consulting support for researchers and staff using their knowledge of the research enterprise to tailor services for their unique needs.

Responsibilities

  • Works with researchers to identify and document complex research computing and data management needs. Coordinates with campus security and compliance offices to identify and document requirements for protecting data. Recommends appropriate research computing and data management systems and workflows.
  • Performs complex analyses needed to design, build, launch and support campus-wide information systems and platforms for use by a broad community of researchers.
  • Initiates and designs solutions for researchers working with sensitive data, partnering with research computing and data management staff, security experts, and researchers.
  • Prepares documentation regarding research computing, data management, and information security.
  • Prepares and executes complex quality assurance and performance monitoring plans.
  • Trains users in conversion and implementation of systems.

  • Knowledge of professional concepts.
  • Knowledge of applications programming technologies, tools and protocols.
  • Possess skills necessary to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    Education/Training:
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training preferably in a field featuring computational and/or data-intensive methods and/or sensitive or protected data.

    Salary & Benefits

    The annual salary range of the position is $98,000 - $110,800, commensurate with experience.

    This is a two years contract position.
