Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) in Harrisonburg, VA, seeks an exceptional senior leader who excels in organizational innovation, recruitment, administrative leadership, and entrepreneurial vision. The ideal candidate will enable the University to continue to succeed in an increasingly competitive higher education enrollment environment.

Position Summary

The Vice President of Innovation and Student Recruitment (VPI & SR) at EMU is responsible for the full spectrum of student recruitment.  Unlike more traditional VP for Enrollment Management roles, the VPI & SR at EMU is expected to be an external-facing leader. He/she  focuses on:

1) Developing—alongside the president—private-public partnerships that lead to strategic student enrollment.

2) Nurturing—alongside the president—community connections that foster more robust internships, job placements, consortia arrangements, and mobile on-site instruction.

3) Crafting—alongside the Provost and Advancement VP—new initiatives and programs that position EMU for enhanced growth.

The VP I & SR will drive operational excellence in recruitment. This new position requires successful administrative experience in budget management, supervision, and planning. It also requires an ability to promote a new culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, and partnership in enrollment & marketing and an appetite for leading in the planning and execution of community partnerships that drive enrollment success.

The VPI & SR oversees a successful admissions team of 12. The cohesive unit includes: UNDERGRADUATE (majors, minors, and concentrations) and GRADUATE (degrees, diplomas certificates, and badges) an emerging PRE-GRADUATE sector (high school and middle school academic camps & programs) and POST GRADUATE (continuing education). emu.edu/admissions

The VPI & SR oversees a strong Marketing and Communications team of eight that has just rolled out a new brand positioning campaign for EMU that has been well-received by our many stakeholders—internal and external. EMU’s Marketing and Communications has responsibilities to promote recruitment on the main campus in Harrisonburg and at our other instructional sites in Lancaster, PA, and Washington D.C. emu.edu/marketing

The VPI and SR will also oversee the formation of an Innovation Incubator at EMU—convening students, faculty, staff, and community members to prioritize “cutting edge” programs and initiatives that are mission-centric and market-ready. The VPI & SR will manage the roll-out of these new initiatives & plans.

The VPI & SR reports directly to the president and serves as a vital member of the President’s cabinet, and works closely with the EMU Board of Trustees Strategic Position & Growth sub-committee.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced Degree preferred (Masters, Doctorate) and exceptional well-documented, innovative leadership in the business and/or education sector.
  • Successful administrative experience influencing change, turning around a business venture, and leading teams through paradigmatic market shifts.
  • Eagerness to lead with passion, a tenacious work ethic, a bias toward action, and a philosophy of transparency and employee empowerment.
  • Demonstrated track record of developing multi-year strategies to optimize an organization’s financial health.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Exhibit personal integrity, outstanding work ethic, energized and positive disposition, and a sense of humor.
  • Compatibility with the Anabaptist-Mennonite faith tradition and a commitment to the mission, values and strategic direction of the university. emu.edu/president/mission

POSITION DETAILS: 

Twelve-month, full-time position. Remuneration will commensurate with experience. Generous benefits package including 30 days of PTO and 14 paid holidays.
