Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Composition

Penn State Harrisburg's School of Humanities is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Composition, to start August 2020 and be part of the faculty who provide general education and upper-division writing courses to a campus of 5,000 students. The campus also offers minors in technical writing and general writing; a Bachelor of Humanities in English; other undergraduate degrees in Communications, Humanities, and American Studies; and graduate degrees in Humanities, Communications, and American Studies. The program seeks candidates with teaching-research areas in rhetoric and composition. Teaching assignments will include general education writing courses for first-year students (including Honors composition and may also include courses for English language learners) and 200-level general education writing courses intended for all majors. Candidates may also be asked to teach graduate writing seminars in Humanities or Communications, as well as possible cross-listed courses in American Studies. Candidates might also offer pedagogy courses to English/Secondary Education majors. Research areas may include rhetoric and composition, digital humanities, visual rhetoric, secondary education writing pedagogy, ESL and ELL, and interdisciplinary general education topics, such as the rhetoric of science or business and professional rhetoric. Candidates should have college teaching experience, a promising research and publication agenda in rhetoric and composition, and a commitment to university service and public outreach; advising and mentoring experience preferred. Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition or a related field required. Ph.D. must be completed by the time of application.
