Job Details

Effectively manage employees and contractors providing the day to day Moves, Adds and Changes (MAC) plus the Terminating, Testing and Labeling (TTL) associated with the delivery of telecommunication services to a customer base across the University and Medical Center. Coordinate the daily workforce allocation of manpower with the Operations Center to meet the customer’s service requirements. Maintain after hours call out list for technician coverage.

Provide consistently high quality customer service and develop strong relationships with stakeholders and counterparts across Duke.

DUTIES & WORK PERFORMED:

    Provide installation, maintenance and repair service for the OIT supported network, card access system, Outside Plant and RF infratsructures across both the University and Medical Center facilities on campus and at select off campus locations. Perform move, add and change request associated with the above listed infrastructure groups. Manage the maintenance/installation for the Outside Plant Infrastructure with the OSP functions such as; monitor cable pressure, splice cable, rack cable in manholes, etc. The group provides 24x7x365 repair coverage utilizing an on-call rotation schedule.

    Act as liaison between the field technicians, the Tel-Com Help Desk and OIT Stockroom to meet all WO and Repair request in the most productive and expeditious manner. Work with Duke Facilities Management Department in regards to small cabling projects and associated work requirements. Work with the OIT Communications Infrastructure Group to determine the appropriate use of staff technicians versus contractors for wiring projects and conversions during major renovations, building additions and new construction.Work with Athletics Department in regards to scheduling and support for their IT needs during athletic activities when needed. Coordinate labor requirements for major departmental MAC’s and direct all such activity through implementation. Establish and enforce industry standard practices for field work, to include desktop, jack and closet processes while understanding the functionality and services provided by the various switching platforms and peripheral systems.Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations.Perform various personnel functions including, but not limited to; performance management (coaching, leading, recruiting, performance planning), hiring, promotions, transfers, scheduling and reward recognition.Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Required: BA/BS in Engineering, or related discipline with an emphasis in Telecommunication or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred: A BA/BS degree in Engineering or related with an emphasis in Telecommunication plus RCDD certification.

Duke University was created in 1924 by James Buchanan Duke as a memorial to his father, Washington Duke. The Dukes, a Durham family that built a worldwide financial empire in the manufacture of tobacco products and developed electricity production in the Carolinas, long had been interested in Trinity College. Trinity traced its roots to 1838 in nearby Randolph County when local Methodist and Quaker communities opened Union Institute. The school, then named Trinity College, moved to Durham in 1892, where Benjamin Newton Duke served as a primary benefactor and link with the Duke family until his death in 1929. In December 1924, the provisions of indenture by Benjamin’s brother, James B. Duke, created the family philanthropic foundation, The Duke Endowment, which provided for the expansion of Trinity College into Duke University.Duke Campus

As a result of the Duke gift, Trinity underwent both physical and academic expansion. The original Durham campus became known as East Campus when it was rebuilt in stately Georgian architecture. West Campus, Gothic in style and dominated by the soaring 210-foot tower of Duke Chapel, opened in 1930. East Campus served as home of the Woman's College of Duke University until 1972, when the men's and women's undergraduate colleges merged. Both men and women undergraduates now enroll in either the Trinity College of Arts & Sciences or the Pratt School of Engineering. In 1995, East Campus became the home for all first-year students.
