Job Description:


General Summary:


Holyoke Community College is hiring exceptional Instructors/Trainers who have a passion for teaching workforce and/or certificate based courses and programs to clients, their employees, workforce students, especially to a diverse audience. All instructors must be credentialed in their area of expertise and experienced in the specific discipline being taught.


Under the general supervision of the Assistant Vice President of Adult Education and Workforce Development, the qualified applicant will develop high-quality, interactive, contextualized ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) curriculum for non-native speakers of English preparing to enter and successfully complete an MCCTI (Massachusetts Casino Careers Training Institute) Blackjack class.


Curriculum Development: November, 2019 - January, 2020. Developed In collaboration with Assistant Vice President for Adult Education and Workforce Development, Director of ESOL, and MCCTI Blackjack instructors. Includes vocabulary, communication skills, and excellent customer service.


Instruction: Teach ESOL/Gaming class 9 hours/week, 6 weeks, February - March, 2020. Also, provide ESOL tutoring support to students in the Blackjack class, April-June.


Duties:


  1. Works with a team, including but not limited to, the Assistant VP, Director of ESOL, and MCCTI Gaming instructors to develop and deliver contextualized ESOL (pre-training curriculum for non-native English speakers entering a Blackjack Dealer training program).
  2. Provides ongoing tutoring support to ESOL students enrolled in the Blackjack class.
  3. Prepares syllabus, assessments, lesson plans and activities; provides to Assistant VP in advance of each class for approval.
  4. Assists in developing curriculum approved by the Assistant VP and MCCTI.
  5. Teaches assigned curriculum in accordance with course syllabus and assessments as scheduled; ensures all classes start on time and as scheduled; notifies the Assistant VP at least 3 hours in advance when a situation occurs that could prevent class from starting on time.
  6. Incorporates actual workplace scenarios, case studies, procedures into the courses.
  7. Evaluates students' written assignments and exams as applicable.
  8. Ability to work with classroom style as provided in order to meet specifications of course; ensures all labs & equipment are properly maintained and secured; ensures all equipment and supplies are returned to storage and secured following each class as necessary; immediately reports any issues to the Assistant VP.
  9. Completes required reporting and documentation, including assessment of learning outcomes, attendance verifications, evaluations, etc.
  10. Must be able to commit to hours of courses as scheduled.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned by administration.


Requirements:


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in related field is required along with prior teaching experience particularly in a community college or workforce training environment. At least two years' experience teaching adult ESOL/ESL/EFL students. Demonstrated strong communication, writing and presentation skills; strong facilitation/training experience in-group context with a commitment to working with diverse populations; ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple assignments and coordinate training session logistics.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree or TESOL Certification. Bilingual skills a plus. Prior experience with contextualized ESOL curriculum development or hospitality/gaming industries.


COMPENSATION: $62.50/hr; no benefits. (Est. $32.50 for curriculum development, for completed curriculum).


START DATE: November, 2019


HOURS: Flexible days, evenings, and/or Saturdays could be requested.
