Basic Function

To serve as the construction inspector for Capital construction projects and other projects as assigned. Ensure that all capital construction projects are accomplished fully, correctly and in accordance with Building Code and other requirements.

This position is funded with non-continuous or non-recurring funding and is subject to continuation based on fiscal year funds and the needs of the college.

Duties and Responsibilities

Perform daily inspections and prepare daily reports for all phases of construction. Maintain a set of field records of all construction related documents.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid State Driver’s License and Insurable driving record
• High School Graduate or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Substantial experience in construction field with inspection/administration.

Preferred Qualifications

Safety related certifications – OSHA 30, OSHA 10, first aid, PPE, CSET, Asbestos awareness. Certification as a B-2 Commercial Inspector and Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector (VA)

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Competencies
•Considerable knowledge of various construction trades and building codes. •Ability to interpret and apply codes and standards. •Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with the VCCS Project Manager, the NVCC Assistant Director of Capital Projects, Fire Marshall, college staff, faculty, AE and contractors. •Ability to identify deficiencies in building components through visual inspection and description of operational problems.• Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing. •Ability to read and interpret contract drawings. •Considerable knowledge of the State Wide Building Code. Some knowledge of Fire Code
•Certification as a B-2 Commercial Inspector and Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector (VA) is required within the first year of employment
