The Health Department has approximately 200 undergraduate and graduate students in community health, healthcare management, school health education, and human service studies programs. The Department also provides required courses for a number of degree programs across the college.

Major Responsibilities

•Teach courses and assess learning in the undergraduate health majors in community/public health and healthcare management and graduate (master’s) in community health. Priority areas of instruction are community health methods, epidemiology, public health statistics, environmental health, health policy, and healthcare administration and management. Other areas will depend on individual expertise and could include coursework in nutrition, mental health and counseling, chronic and communicable diseases, and health communication.
•Provide service to the Health Department, the local/state/national school health education profession, the School of Professional Studies, the SUNY Cortland campus community, and/or the State University of New York.
•Advise undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the programs and culminating experience advisement and assessment.
•Engage in scholarly work and activities as appropriate to the application and receipt of tenure and promotion at SUNY Cortland.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships

Reports to the academic department chair.
Works with a department of 15 full-time faculty members.

Required Qualifications

•Earned doctorate (PhD, DrPH). Candidates who are ABD may be considered with expected completion of doctorate one year from appointment date. Please note: Reappointment will not be considered without completed doctorate prior to review date.
• Professional preparation, and/or experience in community/public health, healthcare management, or administration.

Preferred Qualifications

•Experience in public/community health, healthcare administration, or healthcare management
•Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)/Master Certified (MCHES).
•Experience teaching at the college level.
•Experience with designing and delivering online programs and courses.
