Description

Under the direct supervision of the Department Director, the Continuing Educator (CE), as Program Director of the College Counseling program, shares academic and administrative responsibility for the development, implementation, marketing, fiscal management, ongoing evaluation, academic quality, and supervision of the program. The CE should be a content expert in College Counseling, with practical experience in the field.

The CE serves as a member of various committees and task forces convened at the discretion of the Director and/or the Dean's Office. The incumbent is expected to demonstrate outstanding leadership, excellent academic and managerial skills, enthusiasm for UCLA Extension's public service educational mission, and exceptional interpersonal skills. The incumbent also represents the institution and the department in a number of regional networks and professional associations related to the College Counseling, counting education, and higher education fields.

Requirements:

  1. An advanced degree in a relevant field, such as higher education, counseling, education, etc.
  2. Experience in the college counseling field and knowledge of both school counseling and private practice college counseling.
  3. Experience in teaching adults, in continuing education, or in professional development.
  4. Active participation in College Counseling networks and professional organizations.
  5. Experience in program design, implementation, and evaluation of continuing education and professional development programs in the field of Education.
  6. Ability to develop creative, continuing education programs within an entrepreneurial framework, in response to changing needs and trends in the field of Education.
  7. Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills. Ability to communicate and collaborate, as a peer, with faculty, professional association members, community leaders, and University Extension colleagues. Specific strengths in building partnerships among constituent groups is required.
  8. Experience in an academic environment.
  9. Knowledge and facility with computers, leading word-processing and financial management software. Ability to function effectively within an electronic-network, office environment.
  10. Ability to write clear and effective academic language. Experience in report and proposal writing.
  11. Experience, or understanding of, distance learning methods and techniques for adult education using online learning formats. Ability to use multimedia software and tools in the development of online courses and formats.
  12. Ability to work successfully with a highly diverse staff and student population.
  13. Maintain active and positive relationships with the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies.
  14. Experience in developing, implementing, maintaining, and analyzing educational program assessments.
