The College of Arts and Sciences of Nazareth College invites applications for the position of Director of the School of Music at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, tenure-eligible, with an 11-month appointment anticipated to begin July or August 2020.

The ideal candidate will have an earned doctorate in music and will have demonstrated significant achievement and distinction in teaching, scholarship/creative work and service, sufficient to warrant appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. In addition, documented successful administrative experience in the areas of strategic planning, curriculum development and assessment, accreditation, faculty governance, grant writing and/or fundraising, and budget management is required. We invite candidates who have experience in inter-professional collaboration, interactions with diverse communities and cultures, and mentoring faculty.

We seek an ambitious, inspiring, and innovative leader to guide the continued growth and development of the School of Music. The new Director will provide leadership and vision for the School; engage with administration, faculty and staff in efforts pertaining to strategic planning, enrollment management, student success, diversity and inclusion; and promote a healthy and collegial environment.

The new Director will encourage, support, and expand the educational, creative, and performance activities of students, faculty and guest artists; assess faculty and staff performance; advocate for the School within the College and beyond; and manage the everyday functioning of a multifaceted unit. The new Director will also lead accreditation efforts. Some teaching in an area of expertise will be expected. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The School of Music offers academic, professional, and performance degrees including the B.A., B.S. (Music/Business); B.M. (Composition, Music Education, Music Therapy, Music Performance); M.M. (Performance and Pedagogy); and M.S. (Music Education) within a liberal arts environment. The School also interfaces with the Creative Arts Therapy Department in the MS (Creative Arts Therapy specialization in Music Therapy) degree. The School of Music consists of 18 full-time and 50 part-time faculty, two full-time staff, more than 250 students (undergraduate and graduate music majors), and a Community Music School of 250 students. UG and GR Students enrolled at Nazareth have the opportunity to participate in study abroad programs, original research, internships and civic engagement, as well as an Honors Program. The Jane and Laurence Glazer Music Performance Center, a new state-of-the-art facility, opened in August 2018. Nazareth College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and the National Association of Schools of Music. The Music Therapy program is approved by the American Music Therapy Association.

The School of Music is part of the College of Arts and Sciences, the largest unit at Nazareth College with over 50 programs and almost 1400 students. The Visual and Performing Arts area in the College of Arts and Sciences has over 500 students and in addition to the School of Music also includes the departments of Art and Design, and Theatre and Dance.
