Working Hours:

Working hours for this position consist of no more than 15 hours per week. Hours to be agreed upon by both supervisor and employee at the onset of employment and are subject to change with notice based on the needs of the Tutoring Center.

Summary:

Professional Tutors needed for our Science Center (Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology), Foundational Studies Lab (developmental reading, developmental writing) and in Business (Basic Computer – Microsoft office; general business; basic accounting).

Minimum Requirements:

Professional Tutors are chosen on the basis of academic skill, character, and the ability to communicate well with others. Tutors are expected to have extensive knowledge in the subject they are hired to tutor and the ability to communicate that knowledge to students. All individuals in the Professional Tutoring position must meet the following minimum qualifications:

•          Possess an Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, or Master’s Degree in discipline being tutored or equivalent work experience in the subject area being taught.

•          Obtained grades of ‘B+’ or higher in course(s) you are intending to tutor

•          Possess knowledge of basic computer functions and software, including Microsoft Word, email, and other software applications

•          Must demonstrate and maintain a high level of confidentiality

•          Previous teaching or tutoring experience preferred

Responsibilities for Tutors for levels 1,2, 3 and 4:

•          Provide study, learning, and time management strategies for students within course material

•          Inform Tutor Center Coordinator of any possible lateness or absence prior to scheduled shift

•          Use designated RACC employee email address as primary method of communication and check RACC email at least three times a week

•          Complete electronic time sheet in a timely manner

•          Must be able to handle multiple tasks at one time and limit an initial contact with a student to no longer than 30 minutes

•          Attend mandatory tutor training sessions and follow the policies outlined in the Tutoring Handbook

•          Maintain appropriate ethical and professional conduct while working with students, staff, and faculty and demonstrate respect for the diversity of staff, students, and faculty

•          Approach and meet with students on a walk-in, one-on-one, or small group basis to provide tutoring assistance on many levels, including study skills.

•          Additional related duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

•          Complete mandatory Title IX training annually

•          Report any problems to Tutoring Coordinator immediately

•          Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions

Additional Responsibilities for Level 2, 3 & 4 Tutors:  

•          Develop and help maintain resources for your subject area

•          Mentor and train other tutors as requested.

•          Write articles for the monthly Tutoring Center newsletter

•          Present workshops on success strategies for college students

•          Participate in one on one tutoring sessions and on -line tutoring as

needed.

Additional Responsibilities for Level 4 Tutors (Adjuncts):

•          May conduct group study sessions to align with classroom instruction

•          Test proctoring when appropriate

•          Develop materials as needed to support students who come into the Learning Centers

•          Provide mentorship to Level 1, 2 and 3 tutors

•          Train other tutors as needed

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, to sit and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
