The Department of Geography is committed to research that focuses on the most critical issues of the 21st century in order to advance a more sustainable and equitable future.
Applications are invited for a tenure-track position in Geography at the rank of Assistant Professor with a specialty in Human Geography. In addition to specialty courses within the scholar’s area of expertise, this hire would teach courses such as: Introduction to Human Geography, World Regional Geography, Economic Geography, Political Geography and Methods.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. or will have completed all requirements for a PhD in Geography or an allied field by the date of appointment. Applicants must have a specialty in Human Geography with expertise and teaching experience in political, economic or cultural geography, and have a background in quantitative and/or mixed methods. Applicants must have experience using mixed/integrative methods (both quantitative and qualitative) to research key human geography issues including, but not limited to: economic development and inequality, social difference, human-environment interactions, political ecology, society and technology, migration and displacement, informality or social movements.

The George Washington University is located in downtown Washington, D.C. and offers BA and MS degrees in Geography, a BA in Environmental Studies, Minors in Geography and GIS, and a certificate in GIS. Faculty members in the Department are actively involved in the Environmental Studies Program, the Center for Urban and Environmental Research (CUER), and the Elliott School of International Affairs. Research foci in the department include urban environment issues, Arctic regions and migration. We are a young dynamic faculty who value teaching along with research collaboration with each other and our graduate students. Thus, a successful search would result in a new faculty member who could contribute to both methodological and theoretical offerings at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
