To provide sign language interpretation services for students, faculty, and staff that are deaf or hard of hearing.Description of Duties and TasksEssential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provides interpreting services for students, faculty, and staff that are deaf or hard of hearing.Prepares for assignments by reading textbooks; conferring with students, instructors, and/or other interpreters.Assists with general office support, including planning and scheduling interpreting coverage as required, and maintenance of training materials. Provides training and mentoring to staff and hourly interpreters, and student interns.KnowledgeMust possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
American Sign Language, interpreting, and deaf culture. Interpreting and transliterating services provided in educational environments. Interpreter Services policies and procedures. SkillsMust possess required skills and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Maintaining an established work schedule. Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills including tact and diplomacy. Two years in post-secondary setting. Required Education
Texas BEI Basic Certification or higher with at least 30 hours of college credit.Preferred Education

Must pass the Austin Community College Interpreting Skills Assessment. Must have either current State of Texas BEI or national RID/NAD interpreter certification.Physical Requirements
Work is performed in a standard office or similar environment. Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling. Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.Safety

This position is a 9 month position at 30 hours/week. The salary for this position will be prorated.ACC Benefits OverviewFull-time Faculty and Staffing Table employees who work in full-time and/or part-time positions at the College are eligible for ACC medical benefits effective the first of the month after their first 60 days of employment. Benefits include medical, dental, life insurance, short and long term disability, retirement plans and AD&D.
ACC does not participate in Social Security. ACC participates in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) and the Optional Retirement Program (ORP-Faculty Only).
