8:00 am – 5:00 pm; Monday – Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required in conjunction with special events.

This position is designated as ‘mandatory’ and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.

Primary Purpose of Position

This position will focus on educational aspects of recycling (for contractors and campus), and will assist with developing implementation plans for specific projects that have been identified as campus needs (campus-wide education plan, composting program, plastic wrap collection, shredding, etc.). This position will act as designer and project manager on these projects, and will assist with planning, implementing and tracking projects to efficiently expand departmental operations.

Minimum Education/Experience

Graduation from a four year college or university and one year of program associate experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Essential Job Duties

1. Act as main point of contact for educating Auxiliary and fee-funded campus departments on relevant recycling policies and procedures.
2.Organize waste audits and track data for use in education.
3. Assist in developing campus-wide recycling education plan(s) in order to make recycling operations more efficient.
4. Develop signage, posters, and other educational materials to improve understanding of the recycling program on campus.
5. Assist with maintaining Recycling website and social media accounts.
6. Act as the liaison between Office of Waste Reduction & Recycling, Capital Planning, and Capital Projects and Renovation contractors with regard to Construction/Demolition (C/D) recycling and waste reduction.
7. Research federal, state, and local legislation and policies related to recycling to remain informed of current trends and regulations.
8. Update University community on new rules/regulations and incorporate this information into campus-wide trainings.

Other Work Responsibilities

1. Assist with waste audits and with the Zero Waste Football program.
2. Work with Recycling Education Coordinator to assist with student outreach efforts.
3. Provide presentations to campus and off-campus groups, both on and off-site.
4. May require occasional travel to give presentations at conferences off-site.
5. Assist with development and implementation of future recycling programs.
6. Position requires both indoor and outdoor work in all types of weather. Incumbent is expected to visit construction sites, assist with waste audits, and visually assess dumpsters and waste containers as needed.
7. Research grant opportunities and write applications.
8. Perform general office work, including filing, photocopying, and faxing.
9. Perform other related duties as assigned or delegated.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

1. Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience that provides the employee with the functional work experiences needed to perform this work, or the equivalent combination of training and experience.
2. Excellent communication skills, strong organizational skills, strong interpersonal and collaborative problem solving skills and program development skills.
3. Working knowledge of desktop publishing software (Illustrator, Photoshop and/or Publisher) and presentation software.
4. Recycling office/sustainability office experience and knowledge of local and state environmental policies and issues.
5. Strong knowledge and skill with Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), and willingness to learn new programs.
6. Computer literate.
7. Effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation and comprehension).
8. Effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds and cultures.
9. Foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork with coworkers, visitors, building occupants and the entire campus community.
10. The Recycling Project Manager may operate assigned vehicles on and/or off campus and must possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver’s license upon appointment to the position.
11. Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
