The Vice Provost for Digital and Lifelong Learning (VPDLL) is UNC-Chapel Hill’s leader in the establishment of the university’s vision, mission and unified strategy for a future-directed, sustainable online/digital learning institutional environment. Grounded in the vision, mission and strategy, the VPDLL will lead a coordinated, holistic institution-wide effort to provide design, implementation planning, execution, assessment and continuous improvement processes for degree and non-degree residential and non-residential digital offerings as well as instructional support in the design and delivery of digital academic offerings.

Position Description

This position provides principal, high-level, professional and personal administrative support to the Vice Provost for Digital and Lifelong Learning in the Office of the Provost, including responsibilities of an operational nature. Work ranges from standardized office support assignments, including drafting of written materials, to performance of administrative duties involving decision-making and judgment. This position requires public contact at the highest levels, both internal and external to the organization, contact with program staff, managers of other units, and representatives of other state agencies/universities.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Associate’s degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience ; or Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Considerable knowledge of program services, policies, procedures, laws, rules, and regulations;
Ability to demonstrate and apply this knowledge in performance of administrative support tasks;
Ability to explain and interpret program information to clients/customers and staff.
Ability to clearly convey, persuade, and negotiate information and ideas to individuals or groups.
Ability to identify and understand issues, problems, and opportunities; determines course of action; develops appropriate solutions.
Ability to develop ideas into plans of action and to coordinate the actions through implementation.
Ability to present ideas clearly and effectively in written form.
Ability to edit, adjusting language or terminology to meet needs of the audience or as appropriate; ability to use correct grammar, organization, and structure.
Ability to compile, assimilate, organize, and analyze printed and electronic information.
Ability to apply knowledge of data research and manipulative analysis.
Ability to provide direction to staff.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working individually on projects and in team settings.
Experience drafting and editing memos, letters, and other professional communications.
Experience in a front office role interacting with people in person and by phone.
Experience managing calendars for senior administrators and scheduling meetings for large groups of participants.
