Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, is in search of a photographer with a background in photojournalism who will take captivating images that tell The Citadel story. The photographer will reside in the Office of Communications and Marketing and will work closely with publications, marketing, media relations and social media professionals to produce images to enhance communications and tell The Citadel story.

The photographer is responsible for prioritizing and managing multiple assignments during a fast-paced academic year. In addition to supporting the Office of Communications and Market’s communication and branding efforts, the photographer will have regular assignments, including Friday afternoon dress parades and celebrated weekends (matriculation, Parents Weekend, Homecoming, Corps Day and graduation).

The photographer coordinates the setup, photography, processing and archiving of college images including tagging the photos with keywords to make them easily searchable. The photographer maintains a file of images that illustrate the principle aspects of Citadel life as well as an inventory and a regular maintenance schedule of college photography equipment. He or she is also responsible for ensuring that all tasks are in compliance with college policies and NCAA rules.

The Citadel photographer serves as an ambassador for The Citadel by providing excellent customer service and professionalism as well as assisting videographers, photojournalists and other external professionals who have assignments on campus.

This position requires a creative self-starter who will seek out unique opportunities to capture Citadel life, and at the same time, stay abreast of advances in digital technology and look for ways to expand the capabilities of the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Successful candidates must have experience in photojournalism and portraiture with an artistic eye and be able to illustrate Citadel life through their photography. Candidates must have a high school diploma; a degree in photography is preferred. A minimum of 5 years experience as a full-time photographer is required. Experience in digital asset management is a must, and candidates must be able to prioritize and manage multiple assignments during times of high volume.
