Position Summary


At Stony Brook Medicine, a nationally renowned Academic Medical Center, a Nurse Manager is a valuable member of our team, who oversees clinical services for our patient population, supervises, coordinates and directs the twenty four hour daily operation of a unit(s) and the staff. They provide a cost effective, safe, therapeutic and aesthetically pleasing environment. Psychiatry and Behavioral Health are expanding areas and this is an exciting time at Stony Brook with our new partners Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital.

 

Qualified candidates will demonstrate dynamic nursing leadership skills and possess outstanding communication skills, while adhering to our high standards of excellence. This leader’s vision, in collaboration with the entire team, will support the unit’s advancement to the next level, which includes broader collaboration with our East End partner hospitals.

     

Duties of a Nurse Manager may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Identifies staffing needs based on patient acuity and nurse level of practice.
  • Plans monthly and vacation time schedules.
  • Interviews and recommends selection of nursing staff.
  • Completes shift and/or daily patient care and unit assignment sheets based on patient acuity and nurses' levels of practice.
  • Delegate’s specific tasks to subordinates according to their abilities and the task at hand, providing them with direction and supervision for successful task completion.
  • Monitors the quality of nursing care rendered, and the documentation of the nursing process through direct interaction with nursing staff and their assigned patients.
  • Coordinates the delivery of patient care rendered, and the documentation of the nursing process through direct interaction with nursing staff and their assigned patients.  Conducts ongoing review and audit of patients' medical records.
  • Ensures all staff's compliance with safety and environmental standards.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  

Required Qualifications:

NYS RN Licensure. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Minimum three years relevant nursing experience in adult, child/adolescent psychiatry.  Minimum two years management supervisory experience in nursing/psychiatry to direct, monitor and evaluate the nursing care furnished. Proficiency in computer skills, (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). to direct, monitor and evaluate the nursing care furnished

  

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Nursing, Psychiatric or Mental Health Nursing, Health Care Administration or related field or current enrollment in a Master’s program. ANCC Board Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing. Clinical and/or leadership experience
