The University ofColorado’s Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Department ofMedicine, located at the Anschutz Medical Campus, is an internationallyrenowned program that provides comprehensive resources for the diagnosis andtherapy of diseases of the digestive tract, pancreas and liver.  The Division of Gastroenterology andHepatology has faculty and staff making contributions to research, clinicaltrials, and nationally recognized patient care. The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is rapidly growing, withclinical practices throughout the state of Colorado and over 80 researchers,physicians and staff, all working toward its vision to prevent and treatdisease while being a global model for patient care delivery, interdisciplinaryresearch, and training.

 As an important member of the research team, the Clinical ResearchCoordinator works with industry-sponsored, co-operative group and/orinvestigator-initiated clinical trials in accordance with the trial protocols,FDA Regulations, and ICH/GCP Guidelines.  This position is accountable formeeting study-specific goals and timelines, while also performing and assistingwith clinical tasks related to study-specific tests, procedures, and treatmentsas assigned based on appropriate licensure and/or completion of competencydocumentation and team needs. This position communicates appropriately andeffectively with study subjects, investigators, and other team members and hasoutstanding customer service skills and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationshipsthat are equally respectful to all.

 TheUniversity of Colorado Division of Gastroenterology seeks a Senior Professional Research Assistantfor clinical research projects in advanced endoscopy. The successful candidatewill be part of a collaborative research program focusing on obesity andadvanced endoscopy procedures . Responsibilities will include research protocolenrollment and oversight, specimen collection, data management and dietitianservices.  The position requires anability to work independently, attention to detail, and ability to maintainorganized protocol documentation and data.


Examplesof Work Performed

  • Collaborating with principal investigators, co-investigators to enroll clinical trial patients
  • Conducting study visits
  • Overall compliance with the policy and procedures for conducting good clinical trials
  • Screening, consenting and enrolling study participants
  • Collecting, processing and storing samples for research
  • Medication compliance tracking and coordinating protocol procedures
  • Collect and report all patient reported adverse drug reactions and other serious adverse events, which may occur after hours.
  • Patient education and follow-up per protocol guidelines
  • Routine meetings with monitors to reconcile data management issues
  • Participation in investigator’s meetings
  • Preparing and submitting compliance documentation for the institutional review board
  • Submission to the Human Research Subjects Portal for UCH-RSS review and approval
  • Maintenance of databases
  • Abstracting data from patient charts and electronic medical records
  • Obtain and evaluate nutrition histories of patients and subjects.  This may require contacting patients or subjects for planning nutrition aspects of studies in advance of study or clinical procedures
  • Design diets for research studies consistent with the plan of the study of the particular project considering nutritional principles, needs, likes, and dislikes of the patient
  • Follow study related lifestyle intervention protocol
  • Counsels/educates patients and families to meet requirements for continued nutritional care
  • Will involve 15-25% clinical dietician duties similar to research dietitian duties including obtaining and evaluating nutrition histories, designing diets, giving diet and calorie prescriptions, follow lifestyle intervention protocols, counsel patients on therapeutic lifestyle change for individuals and groups
