Heidelberg University, located in Tiffin, Ohio, is seeking qualified Academic Advising candidates in the Academic Affairs division. We are seeking qualified candidates, passionate about sharing their knowledge, implementing strategies for student engagement and success, to help build a community of education excellence. Heidelberg University has a need for student-centered personnel to fill the following position:

Director of Academic Advising

Responsibilities

The Owen Center for Academic and Career Support is a first point of contact for new and incoming Heidelberg students and provides direct academic advising services. The position in the Center use holistic advising techniques to foster academic success and persistence toward degree completion. The listed position reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Success.

Qualifications

The successful candidates will have academic advising experience and qualifications, including:

  • A Master’s degree complemented by three (3) to five (5) years of professional employment experience with higher education in an advising, mentoring, or leadership role with progressively responsible administrative and leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated academic advising and advising leadership experience at the college level.
  • Possess a strong understanding of academic support programming and initiatives including learning and studying strategies / learning styles / time management.
  • Experience with supervising team members and providing leadership and mentorship to advising and support staff.
  • Possess knowledge of the nature and treatment of learning abilities.
  • Demonstrated successful experience with the development and delivery of student academic support service systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computer applications relevant to student information systems.
  • Ability to work both independently and contribute to a team environment while effectively managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Exceptional self-motivation, creativity, and energy to thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Ability to interact professionally, effectively, and in collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and alumni.

Organization

Heidelberg College was founded in 1850 by members of the German Reformed Church who named it after the Heidelberg Catechism of 1563. Seeking to minister to the German population of Ohio, the Revs. Reuben and Jeremiah H. Good established a church-affiliated institution staffed by a largely theologically trained faculty. The Heidelberg campus is as unique and honored as its nationally recognized academic programs. The collage of historic and contemporary architectural styles on the tree-lined campus reflects the diversity of students, staff and faculty who have graced Heidelberg's halls for more than 160 years. In 1987, after a 61-year absence, Heidelberg reinstituted a graduate program. Currently, students can earn master's degrees in counseling, business administration and athletic training, in addition to bachelor of arts, bachelor of music and bachelor of science degrees. In 2009, Heidelberg College became Heidelberg University. The name was changed to reflect more appropriately the academic offerings of the school.
