The Department of Communication Arts in the College of the Arts seeks applicants for an academic, tenure track position for the Mass Media Program.

The position will be responsible for teaching courses in media writing. Courses may include writing for social media, broadcast and scripts. Other teaching assignments are possible based on qualifications and experience. Courses may be delivered in traditional, online, hybrid, and in off-campus formats. Faculty members are expected to make substantive contributions to the Department including mentoring, departmental and university service, and community service while maintaining an active scholarly and creative agenda.

Required Qualifications

Interested candidates must have a terminal degree in Mass Media or a closely related field.

A demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning as well as scholarship; and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional experience in media writing.

Professional experience working with and designing social media.

College level teaching experience.

Position Requires completion of VSU’s Annual Compliance Training course (such as State Business Transactions, Drug Free Workplace, Anti-Harassment Policy, Introduction to Information Security, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Policy, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interest/ Outside Activities Policy, Leave Procedures for Faculty and Staff, Georgia Open Records Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Contracts 101. Supervisory positions require training in FMLA and Worker’s Compensation.

Position Requires a Criminal Background Check.

Position May Require Credit Check (if using P-Card, working with Cash, etc.).
