DESCRIPTION

The Department of Family Medicine and Public Health has approximately 125 salaried faculty and is comprised of seven divisions: Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Family Medicine, Health Policy, Global Health, Preventive Medicine, and Behavioral Health. Our mission is to improve Public Health through preventive, behavioral, epidemiologic and clinical research, education and clinical care.

Our patient care is provided at several locations across the county as well as through multiple initiatives with the medically underserved in our community and includes training of over 60 residents and fellows. With over $125 million in research grants and contracts, our award-winning faculty conduct innovative Public Health research at the intersection of behavioral and medical sciences to assess and understand chronic disease etiology, improve human health, and prevent disease at the individual and population level.

In collaboration with senior researcher, provides scientific guidance and research project management with implementation, design and monitoring of a study, including but not limited to research in environmental, public health, social or biological science disciplines.

The Health Services Research Center provides program evaluation and research services to a variety of health research projects. The position will provide input and consultation to program evaluation activities and health outcomes measurement for San Diego County Behavioral Health Services (BHS). Individual will interact with multiple mental health and substance use disorder service programs and staff through training in the administration of outcome measures and providing technical support and maintenance of protocols.

Provides assistance to Study Director and lead staff to identify and recommend improvements in current outcomes and data gathering to the study. Responsible for creating reports documenting program outcomes to be distributed for the Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System (DMC-ODS) and other evaluation projects and clinical trials. Also keeps detailed and organized records of site contacts, meeting notes, inventory needs, and other project- related metrics as necessary. Assist with other projects/needs as requested. Participates in research center management activities and supervise research staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Applied psychology or related area; and/or equivalent experience/training.

  • A minimum of three (3) years of senior-level research experience.

  • Extensive experience coordinating program operations in US and international research site location(s). Experience managing foreign and domestic research sites remotely.

  • Proficiency in submitting and maintaining human research protections protocols.

  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and produce reports specifically for the California Health Benefits Review Program legislative bills.

  • Thorough knowledge of safety, legal, cultural and regulatory requirements relative to field research responsibility.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of research discipline, principles, concepts, analysis and/or operations being conducted at field/remote sites.

  • Thorough knowledge of local customs and operations at field/remote sites. Proven ability to work in ambiguous conditions and take relevant responsible action as required.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strategic relationships and partnerships with remote research partners.

  • Strong research and analytical skills. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Ability to work independently and with a team, and to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

  • Proven ability and experience writing reports, correspondence, and spreadsheets. Excellent communication skills with research partners and project team members.

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of program evaluation and mental health outcome measures.

  • Strong computer literacy and word processing skills with ability to use spreadsheet software. Proven ability to use reporting software to develop reports.

  • Advanced knowledge of SPSS, STATA, SAS and/or other software packages for data analysis. In-depth knowledge of County Behavioral Health outcomes evaluation systems and processes.

  • Excellent professional interpersonal communication skills working with diverse populations in person, in writing, and on the telephone.

  • Proven ability to coordinate and run focus groups. Ability to manage and facilitate students and/or interns.

  • Proficient in maintaining thorough files and confidential records according to research practices and protocols.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's Degree in applied psychology, public health, or in related area.
  • Extensive experience leading the creation of reports documenting program outcomes related to Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System and clinical trials.
  • Demonstrated experience working with databases or innovative data visualization techniques.
