DESCRIPTIONThis position is responsible for improving medication access for UC San Diego Health Patients by investigating insurance benefits and completing the necessary work to provide the medication for the lowest possible out-of-pocket expense. This role is also responsible for oversight of benefits investigation compliance and reporting any inconsistencies with that practice to the pharmacist in charge.
Additionally, because this position is a pharmacy technician III, the person best suited for this role will be extremely flexible and able to rotate into standard technician III duties that could include: Order entry, medication shipping, and managing incoming/outgoing telephone calls from both patients and providers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSCertified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
Pharmacy Technician License issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy.
Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience required.
Experience in project management/system responsibility (e.g. Pyxis, narcotic control, QI, or pharmacy buyer/biller/analyst); OR is a Pharmacy School graduate; OR expanded responsibilities over several areas OR possess a Pharmacy Intern License.
- Three (3) years experience with outpatient pharmacy prescription billing.
- Specialty Pharmacy Medication understanding or direct training in specialty disease states.
- 340b Eligibility Training or understanding of 340b Compliance.
- EPIC Willow Ambulatory experience.
- Ability to speak in public.
- Previous telephonic patient care experience.
- Self-starter and able to work in the absence of direct oversight.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
