DESCRIPTION

The McNair Program Research Assistant will support the program by introducing students to resources and expectations within the program, creating communication contact schedule with students (current and alumni) for regular progress interviews. Incumbent will focus their primary effort on the post program participation data collection and reporting, following program graduates for 10 years post-graduation to track McNair program data points such as graduate school enrollment and degree completion. Maintain database of McNair participants and activities. Support the McNair Program in the recruitment of participants, conducting intake assessment of students to be used in mentor matching, and collecting follow up data regarding outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from high school and one (1) year of work experience, preferably in public contact work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Proven experience conducting telephone and in-person interviews with program participants, using strong communication skills and providing a comfortable space for replies. Skill to recognize the need for and maintain confidentiality as needed.

  • Demonstrated experience to independently collect and review data for completeness, adhere to protocols, and report for quality control.

  • Proven experience working in an office environment that supports underrepresented, first-generation, low-income students.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to successfully convey information and conduct interviews.

  • Proficiency using various database and word processing software but primarily Microsoft Office suite of tools, including Excel, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint.

  • Strong skill to communicate effectively both in person and in writing with students, faculty, staff and professional colleagues.

  • Thorough knowledge of academic advising services and resources on a college campus.

  • Experience to successfully work independently, organize own work, and coordinate work activities with others.

  • Strong organizational experience with ability to prioritize workload. Ability to handle repetitive details and organize information.
