CERTIFIED RESPIRATORY THERAPIST (CRT) (UT Health RGV Pediatric Specialty)
To assess and provide quality respiratory therapy to treat patients with respiratory or lung conditions by assessing patient conditions, administering therapeutic techniques and treatments and consults with physicians to determine appropriate treatment plans.Description of Duties
•Performs Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT)s and other diagnostic respiratory or lung functioning procedures.
•May administer medication for respiratory conditions, gases such as oxygen, and perform diagnostic procedures with provider supervision.
•Assesses patient condition and consults with physicians to determine appropriate treatment plans.
•Documents all patient care activities and ensures that they comply with the appropriate quality of care standards and regulations.
•Monitors patient progress following procedures to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.
•Instructs patients and families in proper pulmonary care. Provides patient/family pulmonary education with MDI, rescue drugs, spirometry, spacers and asthma teaching in clinical setting. May educate staff.
•Manages respiratory equipment and ensures preventative maintenance is complete as required and necessary.
•Maintains proper functioning of all respiratory equipment within a designated clinical area and ensures that all respiratory equipment is properly sterilized, calibrated, and positioned prior to all procedures.
•Orders needed equipment and gasses from distributor. Reorders supplies as needed to ensure ample stock.
•Assembles and operates respiratory equipment such as ventilators, therapeutic gas dilutions, and administration of gases or medications as prescribed.
•Administers medication for bronchodilation as ordered by provider and emergency medications as needed and as ordered by provider.
•Charges all procedures performed within established timeframe and completes all procedures and intervention notes in Athena.
•Performs other duties as assigned.

Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy.Preferred Education
Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Care or the equivalent from an accredited respiratory care program.Licenses/Certifications
•Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)
•Licensed by the State of Texas Medical Board as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP)
•Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) within one year of employment
•Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accredited by the American Heart Association.
One (1) year of experience performing duties of a certified respiratory therapist working with pulmonary function testing or respiratory therapy, either inpatient or outpatient.Preferred Experience
Bilingual preferred (English – Spanish). Knowledge of Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs) and gas dilutions.Equipment
Standard respiratory care equipment, Pulmonary Function and other Respiratory equipment.Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Clinical/Office Environment; some travel and weekend work may be required. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.Other
